Counselor In Training

Dear Prospective Counselor In-Training,

Sweetbriar Nature Center depends greatly on its teen volunteers to make our summer programs safe, fun, and successful.  In reality, we could not run our summer programs without them.

Once again, this year we have decided to have a transition stage for younger teens to train them to be assistants.  They will be Counselors- In-Training and the fee to have them attend our summer programs would be half price ($200/week for members and $225/week for non-members).  Any child 16 years old or over will not have to pay this fee if they are accepted as an assistant.

Counselors in Training must be at least 14 years old.

(Adventures on the Waterside, Animal Advocates, and Nature’s Explorer’s weeks are counselor only weeks so CIT’s are unable to assist those programs)

For the above fee they get to partake in all summer program activities and partake in the assistant training and orientation at the beginning of the summer along with a bi-weekly leadership sessions throughout the summer regardless of which weeks they attend.  Along with this they get an opportunity to try helping in the different areas of Sweetbriar Nature Center during their weeks in our programs, such as the Butterfly House and the Gardens.
