VolunteersWinter is almost upon us (The way things have gone it almost might be April). Although it is our slowest season it can also be our most beautiful time of year, especially after a fresh snow or a freeze. When everything is covered in a blanket of snow and icicles hang from all the branches and twigs of the trees. Sweetbriar becomes a winter wonderland (If global warming doesn't make it into a tropical paradise this year). Along with the beauty, will come cold temperatures, deep snow, icy patches, and bone chilling winds. It is the toughest season for animal care. We have many troopers who make there way here and keep the animals fed, watered, and sheltered, while fighting the elements. This year we would like to add to our battalion of unsung heroes, so if you have some time to give, Sweetbriar a call at 631-979-6344. Ask for Eric, ext. 102. Congratulations and thanks to the following volunteers for their continued support. Each has given over 500 hours of time to the Sweetbriar mission.
We are always looking for volunteers to help with camp, animal care, the butterfly house, wildlife rehabilitation, and special events, among other things. The volunteers provide an invaluable service to Sweetbriar. There was a time when we relied greatly on volunteers to present our nature programming to children. Sweetbriar would be thrilled to have more volunteers helping out with our school and camp programs. Please contact Eric, at ext. 102, if you are interested in helping out. Retirees are welcome. |
